My airport hotel rate included breakfast, so I set an alarm, partially so that I’d be awake in time for checkout, but mostly so I could be sure to hit the buffet in a relaxed & dignified manner. Or something approximation of such a thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I slept solidly from the time I put the lights out until the alarm, and had a few moments of confusion trying to understand what the alarm was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakfast and Coffee happened, gazing out at this scenic vista of Airport Terminal & Construction Boarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t unpack much, so packing the bag wasn’t difficult, though I did transfer all of the carry on stuff back into the main bag. That green packable backpack has had way more use than I expected, but it’s beginning to break in places; Still, it survived longer than I’d have expected something from a tourist shop in Christchurch to last, and it fulfilled its duties with dignity and honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My rental car pickup was from the domestic terminal, or at least that’s what the instructions said to do, so I wombled over there and followed the directions. Did spot the opportunity for a Star Trek reference though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This rental place had a system where you call them, and their shuttle picks you up & takes you to their lot in the general vicinity of the airport, which worked well enough. Made it to C+L’s without getting lost in the maze of streets around the airport, though some of that is because I followed a bus going in the correct direction. Because I’m clever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did discover that my tiny readers had become a casualty of the trip; No idea when it happened, but a chunk of one lens was missing. Given that I specifically bought them to have a pair of glasses which could get lost or damaged without it being a big deal, they lasted at least 2 years, through a lot of travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I figured I’d sleep well, on the grounds of being tired & jetlagged. Didn’t expect to sleep through to 11am, but … that’s what happened. Must have needed it, though I’ve not yet figured out just how much sleep I didn’t get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we assume that the overnight hostel in Bangkok was the last good sleep, and that the Singapore place doesn’t count, it’s a horrible number. If the Singapore place does count, it’s still at least a day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I eventually achieved coherence, and set out to at least leave the house, whereupon I stumbled into a cafe with enormous scones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
