The internal layout of the hotel is a bit odd, but I’ve found that with a lot of Travelodges I’ve stayed at. This one has the stairs off the side of the lift lobby, but also has this door to the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a railing in front of it, so nobody will use it by accident, but … It’s not what you’d call ‘securely locked’. Near as I can tell there’s no fire escape or anything out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re on the tenth floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Went to the Gallery of Modern Art; I didn’t see, or expect to see, everything, but I wandered through a few galleries, saw an exhibit on “safety<\/s> safe boxes<\/a>“, and a 1\u00bch Audiovisual exhibit on Colonial Soldiers in WW1 (John Akomfrah – Mimesis: African Soldier<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The African Soldier exhibition was very good; Projected onto three screens, with a mix of archival footage & recent video. There was a sense of loss & abandonment running through it, which … Makes sense. Also some moments of fun & joy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were some warnings, or maybe pieces of advice, on the promotional postcards, suggesting resources & services available if you found the material upsetting or detrimental to your mental health, which I thought was a nice thing to do. I personally found it oddly calming, but I’d been pretty agitated & twitchy beforehand, so sitting in a darkened room actually helped – For someone with a more personal connection to it, I can see it having a different sort of effect.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

just because I thought it was fun – I’ve started putting pictures & art I like into my travel journal, alongside the ticket stubs & tourist maps, because I got sick of seeing things and not being able to collect them<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I had some time to kill before my useful train to Edinburgh ( no sense in arriving before I could check in ), so I went to a pub, and checked off another Brewdog visit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
