This is a “Cars & Aliens” roadtrip RPG; Aliens arrived, fighting broke out, the alien ship exploded for reasons nobody seems to know, and everything is just a bit messed up now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has the role\/playbook approach you see in a lot of PBTA systems, but isn’t one itself – I was playing the Bandage, which isn’t entirely about medical aid, but more support & aid in general. (That’s why I went with Tea & a Rolling Pin in the equipment section, because the idea of someone knocking out a batch of scones with the same rolling pin they also use as a weapon had a certain comedy value; Not that it actually came up )<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one started with a sense of doom; The guy running it was having public transport problems & would be late, and they didn’t have enough tables in the room for all the games. It worked out fine though, because the GM was only a few minutes late, well within the “give everyone a few minutes to arrive” guidelines, and the table they found was out on a third floor balcony of the hotel atrium, so it was relatively quiet, spacious, and a really nice place. The slightly late GM meant that the players had been chatting a bit before the game, which tends to lead to a more relaxed session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one was probably my best game of the con, when all factors were taken into account. We were heading West, ran into a small group of soldiers outside of Indianapolis, and essentially traded “we’ll take a sneaky look at the alien encampment over there and see whether we can sneak some of your captured people out” for fuel. There was a lot of running and hiding, and some reluctant fighting with aliens using the “crash tackle and hit it with a brick” approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, one of the characters was a stray dog who’d attached himself to the group; Played by one of the players, with a playbook and everything. Apparently there’s an all-dog supplement for the game out there, which makes me wonder about an Incredible Journey sort of game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
