Ahhh, but which version? The Depeche Mode original, or the Lacuna Coil cover?
Down by the waterfront, there are these things, which I assumed were artworks.
And they are.
But they’re also public toilets.
I spent a couple of days in Wellington, one in which I visited some folks, and one in which I booked some travel stuff and did some travel research. I’m trying to walk a line between “plan everything to the last detail” and “just wing it”, and to be honest it’s not going all that well.
I know there are folks who’ll arrive in a place with maybe a night of accommodation booked, or maybe none at all, and just see what’s available, but … That’s more than a little too far for me.
I also fired off an application for the US ‘Green Card’ Lottery. The odds aren’t great, but are still better than any lottery I’ve ever entered, and the prize is the opportunity to apply for a Green Card, not the thing itself. And for the cost of a passport photo and filling out a form, why not give it a try?
My thinking here is that the whole visa sponsorship thing is a significant limitation on applying for jobs in the US, and being able to cut through that would be useful, especially for the smaller outfits who really can’t be dealing with the pain in the arse that employing & sponsoring someone is. I’m good at what I do, but I’m not the only one who does it, and I’m not that good.
Plus, it’d put me in the situation of not being beholden to an employer for my ability to stay in the country, which seems like a useful thing; Putting the employment just a little more on my terms, which is important to me these days, for … Reasons.
