Last Day In Siem Reap

I’m aware that the really image heavy posts aren’t loading properly; I’ll divide them up more, into maybe 15-20 images per post, to see if it helps, because I think it’s the number of images that’s causing WordPress some issues

Another quiet day. I’m less & less sure that the coughing thing was entirely Aircon related, because while it’s not getting worse, I am feeling run-down, and there’s a very slight resistance in the lungs. I fly to Bangkok tomorrow, so I’ll at least visit a pharmacy there.

I’m not sure whether they’re intending that to be read as “Come In Come Here/C’Mere”, but that’s what I’m doing. Well, that and trying to fit it to Simple Minds “Waterfront”

Siem Reap didn’t quite work out how I planned, but it worked out well enough. I got my day at Angkor, and while I’d have liked more days, that wasn’t on the cards for this trip. I could have pushed it, but I don’t think it would have been wise to do so, and I don’t think I’d have enjoyed it.

Sometimes you need to accept that you get what you get, and you do what you can, and sometimes you can push past it, and sometimes you can’t.

In short; Worth it.

Found an Irish Pub in Hoi An, found a Welsh one in Siem Reap. No I didn’t go in

I had my first “hey there’s someone I can speak English to” encounter of this trip, and possibly ever? I can’t remember a previous occurrence, but I may be forgetting, and I may just not have noticed.

This guy was very cheerful & outgoing, and also invited me to “Go Smoke Some Herb” in the first few sentences of conversation. Seemed genuinely surprised (but accepted it) at my response of “not my thing”, which I kind of get; I know how I look.

I’m wondering if I’ve completely misunderstood how the backpacker/traveler/tourist market works here, and that it really is all about the partying and the drugs and also there’s this temple thing just outside of town? Because there was this guy, and the entire existence of Pub Street, and the people offering to sell marijuana and cocaine right in the middle of the street.

I should point out that the hostel has a sign up saying not to do drugs in the hostel because they are illegal under Cambodian law.

I’d being heading for a coffee shop, but it didn’t have beer, so this guy made his apologies and left at that point. It was an entertaining interaction.

I’m catching the “Be In The Lobby By 6am” airport shuttle tomorrow, and all going well have a free airport pickup at Bangkok, thanks to having booked enough stuff through booking.com to get a freebie. I’d been wondering about their ride service anyway, so this seems like a good way to test it out.
