I did some figuring, to try to work out how long I was mostly awake on the flight back.
For these purposes, I’m defining ‘proper sleep’ as those times when I could lie down & be asleep for a decent period of time; Leaning against the wall of the aircraft doesn’t count, but sprawling out in an airport terminal would.
Any Sleep At All
From when I woke up & gave up on that overcrowded hostel in Singapore, through the flight to Fiji, waiting in Fiji, flying to NZ, to when I went to bed in an airport hotel in Auckland.
6am Singapore 9 January to 1am NZ 11 January = 37h
A Good Night’s Sleep
From when I woke up in the nice hostel in Bangkok, flew to Singapore, a shitty night’s sleep in Singapore, through the flight to Fiji, waiting in Fiji, flying to NZ, to when I went to bed in an airport hotel in Auckland.
7am Bangkok 8 January to 1am NZ 11 January = 61h
Any sleep at all seems like a more reasonable number, because I probably got half a night of sleep, in small chunks, at that Singaporean hostel.
