Went to the Newfields Art Museum with Tom, where there was a multimedia Van Gogh exhibition;
The exhibition space had a number of connected rooms, with projectors aimed at the walls & floor, so you were surrounded by the images. Interesting, and kind of disorienting at first. At times it was genuinely beautiful, at others kind of a confused collage of cut-out painting elements.
The majority of the thing was the multimedia show, but there was a chunk of differently unusual content, the centrepiece of which was an actual construction of the Bedroom In Arles.
I’d always thought the odd perspective was because Van Gogh had chosen to paint a rectangular room in that way, but no, the room really did look like that, and was an odd trapezoidal shape.
There was also an exhibition of art by folks who worked at the art museum, which was very varied & kind of fun.
Getting back to downtown was an experience. Calling a taxi was difficult, so we both downloaded the Uber app over painfully slow free WiFi (can’t complain about that, it just took a while). Surprisingly easy to set up, but I then realised that it’d maybe cause problems at the destination if I couldn’t connect to The Internet’s; Can’t imagine a driver being keen on “I’m going to step into that hotel lobby where you can’t see me to complete the transaction”.
In hindsight, probably was worried over nothing.
( unfortunately, when I found the booth by accident, the people in it turned out to be a bunch of guys who were being loud & obnoxious jackasses in the ICC one of the evenings before the con started, so I kind of lost interest )
Monte Cook Games had some eye-catching advertising out there. (They also had a store in one of the rooms of the ICC, where they were running games. I don’t think I’ve seen that before; Usually there’s a stall/booth in the Exhibit Hall)
I know nothing at all about this next one, but they definitely wanted to make an impression.
