Auckland to Dunedin

I got a bizarrely smooth run on public transport out to the airport; Train arrived as I was walking down to the Greenlane Station platform, and the Airport bus was arriving at the Puhinui Interchange Station as I got off the train. Made it to the airport too early to do bag drop, so I had breakfast instead.

The plane was delayed, by fog in Christchurch we’re told, but they made the time up. And had a very pink cookie as the in-flight snack. (Raspberry Leamington flavoured)

There’s not really a good way to photograph an airport from the ground, but … Dunedin airport looks pretty similar to any other small city airport.

The shuttle was parked right outside, and they did the thing where someone has a board with the names of the passengers on it, which I think was a new one for me. Even though the plane wasn’t late, I’m glad I went for one of the “tell us your flight number” outfits, because if it had been delayed a lot?

I’m not quite ready for a dorm situation yet, so I went with a private room at a backpacker hostel; It used to be a hospital, and this was one of the nurses rooms, on the top floor. Apparently it’s (the building) been checked for ghosts on a few occasions, and they’re a bit disappointed that they found nothing.

Wandering around Dunedin with no fixed agenda beyond taking a walk, there was this little critter.

There’s a small extra kitchen on the top floor, with a pretty good view of the surroundings.

Also a library with a distinct “abandoned by previous guests” vibe to it, where I’m currently writing this.
