Bordeaux Friday

Bags packed ( small under-seat bags, because they were cheap flights )

As it turned out I could have gone with a slightly larger bag, but I was a little unsure as to how particular WizzAir are with their bag dimension limits, so I went with a 15 litre packable backpack. Next time I’ll use the 24 litre.

I stayed at A+K’s the Thursday night to make getting to Luton Airport easier; We took a taxi, and arrived a few minutes before Tony+Sam, who got there by some sort of light rail or tram.

No big issues at security, though my bag did get searched & swabbed, possibly because it was very tightly packed. They were nice about it though.

Airport Beers at Luton

A lot of stag & hen party groups in the airport. One guy dressed as a hobbit with a group wearing matching “we’re taking the groom to Barcelona” shirts, at least two guys dressed as sexist stereotype stewardesses, and one guy in a fur suit with little antlers. The bridal party groups, by comparison, mostly just had sashes or tiaras.

Kayleigh & I boarding; Not sure where Alex is in the line at this stage – We all had seats in different areas of the plane

The flight … Wasn’t great?

Person next to me ( who was one of our group because they swapped seats ) started throwing up as we took off, and this continued throughout the flight; They rapidly got to the ‘there is nothing left in the system’ stage of vomiting, where it’s bile at best.

Also, even though they managed to get everything into a small airsick bag during takeoff without spilling a drop, the fucking bags leaked, so I can tick “holding a slowly dripping bag of someone else’s sick” off my bucket list. Cabin Crew were great once they could get there, & provided a giant trashbag & all the barf-bags they could get.

There was more hurling in the airport, and on the Uber ride into the city, probably because it was congested as all hell so it took forever, but we eventually made it to our AirBnB apartment. ( Though they & one other walked the last bit because they just couldn’t take the stop start traffic anymore )

Enormous AirBnB balcony
The buildings next door

The apartment was very nice, in an area that seems like it’s being revitalised but hasn’t hit gentrification yet. Fun building designs, especially the ones next door.

It had a big balcony on two sides of a roughly triangular apartment, three bedrooms, big kitchen/dining/lounge. A bit odd on the bathroom front, with one full ensuite, one ensuite without toilet, and a toilet off the hallway with no handbasin.

We left The Unwell One¹ recovering, someone fetched supplies for them, then joined the rest of us at the bar we found by wandering along the park by the river & being attacked by facefulls of pollen.

An oddly rugby themed pub, but … French rugby
Me, Alex, & Tony at the aforementioned pub. Or possibly a subsequent one, I’m not certain.

Dinner happened at a not quite English Themed but somewhat English Adjacent pub, with wine because Bordeaux, and then another accidental wine at a pizza restaurant on the walk back.

Never actually got into the old section of Bordeaux that night.

¹ No, I’m not mentioning who it was, that’s not important. I’m also not mentioning when they felt better and rejoined us, so the presence or lack thereof of anyone in these pictures tells you nothing.
