Nearly Two Weeks In At The Winchester

The floors got a bunch clearer once I found the recycling bin corral; There were plenty of references to it, and to needing a proximity token to get access, but nothing saying where it is.

Eventually found it by looking for common access doors with a prox reader.

As can possibly be seen above, there is some furniture now. Sort of.

An IKEA order is happening for the rest, though I’m trying to walk that line between “too much stuff” and “have you only just moved in”, so time will tell whether I guessed right on what I need.

Well, That Went Better Than Expected

I’m now moved in at the new place ( provisionally The Winchester, but it’s still being workshopped, and the focus groups are still reviewing it ) and moved out of the old one.

The cats are going to be very confused; Nymphadora was obviously sulking at … Well, everyone … as I left, so she’s not taking it well. 😾

Moving happened in two parts, or maybe three if a bike trip counts.

Rode the bike down; It’s currently living in the lounge, as the sight of a set of handlebars chained to the bike rack did not fill me with confidence.

Took ( I think ) three loads by train, as a way to really hammer my train pass before it expires on Tuesday, concentrating on “Things Which Don’t Look Too Weird When Carried On The Train”. The suitcase with wheels was fine, as was the Big Red Backpack, but two pillowcases stuffed with pillows/duvet/a towel, one of which was wedged into a folding drying rack?

Yeah, that last one was a step too far.

And, of course, was the one time I saw someone I know from work. 🙄

The bulk of the stuff fitted, just, in a friend’s car, so it’s now all in the one place. And I found my coffee mug, so that’s a plus.

The new place shares two walls with the company flat I stayed in two years ago, when I first moved here. The wifi password, whatever it is, remains unchanged, because my tablet immediately connected. 😁

A Flat Must Have A Name

So far, the best I’ve got is “The Winchester”, for the Shaun Of The Dead reference.

Backing up slightly; After almost two years living in a rented room in a place with cats who I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about, I’m moving to a ( rented ) place of my own, closer to work.
Much closer.
Like, across the road.

Also, it’s right next door to the company flat I stayed in for a month when I first started the job, so there’s at least a chance that I can pick up the wifi through the wall, assuming the password hasn’t changed in two years.
( I mean, it’d be funny, but that feels like cheating, mostly because it is. Also, I have a crapload of mobile data )

New place is a studio, unfurnished, so I’ll need to get furniture, which will be the first big serious not-easy-to-move thing I’ve bought here, so the whole thing does have a certain air of permanence to it.
Or at least more permanence than a one-month notice period on a handshake tenancy of a furnished room.

Looks like this, though with less image manipulation, but more laminate flooring.
The furniture layout suggestion is a nice touch.

First-ish order of business is going to be rigging a blackout curtain or something in that gap between ‘Bedroom One’ and the lounge.
There’s a curtain rail, but it was clearly put up by an idiot, and I wouldn’t trust it to hold a cobweb.

I did have the idea that I could get a tall bookcase, put it on those roller things they use for moving appliances & heavy furniture, and have a sliding bookcase which could simultaneously block the light and allow me to pretend that I have a secret room in my apartment.
