“Do More Than Yesterday”

Ugh. So Humid.

The title was my goal for the day. I think I managed it.

I was awake early enough to get hostel breakfast, or at least to get it at a time where ordering muesli wasn’t too weird.

I’m not convinced that there IS a challenge; Couldn’t make much sense of the explanation when I asked, but it was very early

I suspect that the shot challenge board is another example of “make sure that you are not accidentally mapping population density”. New Zealand is on there, but it is a hand drawn flag by somebody who is doing their best with a marker pen, so it took a while to spot.

I booked a tour for tomorrow, to Angkor of course, & got myself a three-day pass for the complex. Interestingly, when they booked it they also checked & approved my clothing as being appropriate for the temples. I’d bought a pair of lightweight cargo panfs especially for that reason, and after wearing them for the day, I don’t dislike them as much as I expected to.

Did some wandering, further afield than last time, and eventually found a local temple. I didn’t stay long, not because I felt concerned or had a bad feeling (like the French Quarter in Hanoi or the on-water stuff on Lan Ha Bay), but because it felt very much like this wasn’t my place to be, at least not without a guide. Still, that’s what tomorrow is for.

Also booked a week of accommodation in Bangkok, the next port of call, so that’s locked in now. I’m trying to have at least the next bit of the trip pinned down, as a sort of middle ground between Plan Everything & Wing It.

Finally got a picture of a Wall Gecko, in the bar area here at the Hostel.

There was a weird moment in the hostel bar, where someone was wandering around in Life Of The Party style dispensing shots of something directly from the bottle; Repurposed tequila bottle, but the drink itself was orange.

I’d not be partaking in that anyway, and I’m not sure what the disease transfer risk would be, but after the methanol poisonings in Laos? There is no way in hell I’d be going anywhere near that drink, even at an upmarket place.

  1. Good call on the drink.

  2. Yeah, it seemed … It was an odd thing to see?
Maybe that’s what the bigger party hostels & bars are like on the backpacker circuit.
